"Eat Clean?"- What does that even mean?

"Just eat clean" "Abs are made in the kitchen" "Diet" "Eating real food is important" bla..bla..bla... All this talk about food and eating clean can be confusing! Plus... "Why would I eat 'dirty' food anyway?"

Eating clean (in my opinion) means eating foods that are as close to the earth as possible. Natural and raw foods that are free from unnecessary preservatives and tampering of human hands. The less you add (salts, sugars, some sauces, oils, preservatives, etc) to the meal- the cleaner it is.
Under this definition, items that would not be categorized as 'clean' would include:
  • (Deep) Fried food
  • Fast food
  • Junk food
  • Sodas/pop
So what are some examples of ‘clean’ foods?
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Fish and fish products
  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Eggs
  • Oatmeal
  • Brown rice
  • Beans
  • Quinoa

When it comes to eating clean- portion size is just as important as what you eat. Make sure your portions of vegetables, proteins, and grains are effective for you and your fitness goals.

The rule of thumb is… keep it simple and don’t mess too much with what nature has graciously provided us with.

Do feel free to schedule a well-deserved ‘cheat’ meal as you adopt an eat-clean lifestyle.

Make healthy food choices, eat clean, and feel great!
